Autism West Midlands has developed a number of FREE online courses which may be of interest to both carers and cared-for.

Topics include:

Anxiety & Autism

This course aims to increase awareness of the causes and effects of anxiety in a person with autism. The course will help you understand how you can support them in these situations, and will give you tips for managing your own stress and anxiety.

Autism Awareness

In this training programme the main objective is to introduce some of the background theory to the world of autism and identify the characteristics that people with autism often show.

Digital social communication for people with autism

An hour-long course covering the basics of online and digital social communication. The course is designed to be completed in one session, but at your own pace.

The course covers:

  • Social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and YouTube
  • Texts and Instant Messaging
  • Oversharing
  • Emoticons
  • Sexting
  • Commenting and poking
  • Forums and chatrooms

The course may also be suitable for people who don’t have autism but want to learn more about online communication, including parents and carers.
